ABOUT US
Message from the President
St. Margaret’s Junior College values personal development based on Christianity and education through small, individualized classes. Our graduates are active and successful in many fields and display the strong and solid characters that they developed during their education at St. Margaret’s. I hope students will not only study their specialized areas and acquire knowledge but will also discover more about themselves through their campus life. “To gaze, to listen, to think, to act and to pause.” Sometimes it is important to pause and take a deep breath during one’s busy life. Our beautiful campus surrounded by nature allows us to become aware of the importance of life. Life on campus is full of discoveries and encounters and is not only limited to simply attending lectures. It may be in the form of conversation with teachers and friends, learning about the bible or attending assembly hour, which focuses on the meaning of life. What is the gift that has been given to you? Let us create the time for you to become your true self.
The History of St. Margaret's
St. Margaret's School has served for 130 years as one of the true educational pioneers in the field of education for young girls and women in Japan, providing an education based on Christian faith and principles. St. Margaret's was founded in 1877 by Bishop C.M. Williams, who was sent from the U.S. as a missionary by the Episcopal Church. The school's English name - "St. Margaret's" - comes from Saint Margaret, Queen of Scotland during the 11th century.
We celebrated our 130th anniversary on November 1, 2006. The education of St. Margaret's School begins in kindergarten and continues through junior college, and all schools are located on one campus.
Advisor System
There is an advisor system at the college, and each student is assigned a faculty member as advisor for any problems she may confront. The number of the students per class is about 25 in the Department of English and 20 in the Department of Early Childhood Education. Owing to the compact size of the classes, one of the characteristics of this institution is that the bond between students and faculty members is very strong.
