The Rikkyo Graduate School of Intercultural Communication is designed to educate and train intercultural communication experts and specialists in four different fields: TESOL(Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Interpreting and Translation Studies, Environmental Communication, and Intercultural Communication Studies. In the TESOL course, teachers at various levels, from elementary school to high school, college and university, as well as language schools, are offered a variety of courses so that their teaching of English as a foreign language will incorporate a deeper understanding of intercultural communication. In the Interpreting and Translation course, conference interpreting (simultaneous and consecutive) training is given, along with the study of translation/interpretation theories. Interpreting and translation is considered an intercultural communication endeavor and as such, the study of intercultural communication is a necessary prerequisite to becoming a full-fledged professional in this field. In the Environmental Communication course, the environment is viewed as another culture, which we should try to communicate with and understand. This course doesn't approach the environment from only a scientific point of view, but also considers various aspects of environmental issues, such as environment and education, environment and the media, along with environment in literature. In the Intercultural Communication Studies course, the theories and practices of intercultural communication field are studied, including interpersonal communication, organizational communication, as well as communication with developing countries and issues concerning multicultural societies. Students in the graduate program will receive a master's degree in intercultural communication upon fulfilling the academic requirements specified, including the submission of a master's thesis or a project report.
